We sourced some used batteries to replace the set that, linked to a solar panel array, had been providing most of the power for the Zigzag building (Facebook page) via a large ‘mains’ inverter. Our previously installed system, which provides all the lighting for the building is still going strong. The set we were replacing […]
Over the winter and spring of 2017 we worked with The Bookshelf crew to design and fit a solar power system to their library bus. We sourced used solar panels and batteries added a new MPPT solar charge controller and a 600W inverter to provide 240V AC ‘mains’ power as well as fitting low power […]
We spent a day with Plotgate Community Farm upgrading their off-grid power system – fitting a large battery bank of reclaimed AGM cells, making all the required leads, and upgrading the wiring to their inverter.
Some of the travelling toolboxers were contacted by a group called the Wild Washerwomen who were trying to set up a mobile laundrette that could be taken to refugee camps abroad. They had a Mk6 Transit van and wanted to have 2 washing machines, a dryer, a waste water tank a bed for volunteers, and […]
In April we spent a long weekend at the Zigzag Building (Facebook page), an off-grid community arts space in Glastonbury. We worked with some of the Zigzag Building crew designing and installing a new solar power system and low voltage lighting using lots of reclaimed components. Notes for the workshop are available from http://travellingtoolbox.org.uk/notes-for-offgrid-power-workshop/
We spent a weekend at the award winning Golden Hill Community Garden in Bristol building a pair of champion biochar stoves with some of the gardens volunteers
We took the Travelling Toolbox for its first outing to the national Food Sovereignty Gathering in Hebden Bridge
